The highly awaited match unfolded with all the excitement
and intensity of their famous rivalry. Shreyas Iyer, leading KKR, won the toss
and chose to field first, counting on the venue's trend of favoring chasing
teams. Faf du Plessis, RCB's captain, agreed, saying he would have done the
same if he won the toss.
RCB started steadily, scoring 7 runs in the first over
bowled by Starc. However, the excitement waned as Faf du Plessis fell victim to
Harshit Rana's delivery in the next over, leaving after a brief display of
power hitting. Virat Kohli and Cameron Green then steadied RCB's innings with a
solid partnership, accumulating 65 runs off 42 balls before Green's dismissal
by Andre Russell echoed Faf's fate, showing the unpredictable nature of T20
cricket.
As RCB's innings progressed, Kohli and Glenn Maxwell
attempted to rejuvenate the innings with a partnership that, despite its
promise, could only be described as average. While the duo managed to take
advantage of Maxwell's lucky escapes after two dropped catches, including one
by Ramandeep off Sunil Narine's bowling in his 500th T20 appearance, Maxwell's
luck eventually ran out. Sunil Narine, in a fitting twist, claimed Maxwell's
wicket, marking a milestone moment in his illustrious T20 career.

Despite the setback, Kohli continued to lead from the front, scoring yet another half-century in TATA IPL 2024 and reclaiming the Orange Cap, an award he previously won in 2016. Kohli's partnership with Dinesh Karthik injected much-needed momentum into RCB's innings, with Karthik's quick cameo of 20(8) providing vital runs to set KKR a challenging target of 183.
KKR's response was swift and decisive, with Sunil Narine
leading the charge with an aggressive display of batting prowess. Narine's fast
knock of 47 runs off just 22 balls, during which he took advantage of the
powerplay to devastating effect, set the tone for KKR's chase. Partnered by
Philip Salt, Narine propelled KKR to a commanding 85 runs in the first six
overs, firmly establishing their dominance.
Though Narine and Salt were soon dismissed, Venkatesh
Iyer and skipper Shreyas Iyer steadied KKR's ship with a composed partnership,
guiding the team towards victory. Venkatesh Iyer, in particular, showcased his
match-winning abilities with a crucial half-century before his departure, while
dynamic contributions from Rinku Singh and Shreyas Iyer ensured KKR's triumph
by 7 wickets.
This emphatic victory for KKR not only stopped the trend
of home teams' dominance in TATA IPL 2024 but also extended RCB's winless streak against KKR at their home
ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, to a disappointing six matches. The last time
RCB emerged victorious against KKR at this venue was in 2015, in a memorable
encounter where Mandeep Singh's heroics in a rain-curtailed match secured
victory for the home team.
